A hot day for cool sounds Trumpeter James Morrison on stage yesterday Picture: Braden Fastier THE grey skies finally lifted and the crowds came out in force to celebrate a triumphant finale to the Manly Jazz Festival yesterday. The cool sounds matched the weather on Saturday and Sunday, but yesterday the beachfront and Corso were packed with people making the most of the long weekend and the first day of school holidays. Story, pictures: Page 6 Stockland free parking bonus Danielle Nicastri SHOPPERS at the revamped Balgowlah Stockland have been en- joying free parking after Australia's third largest parking operator, Premier Parking, entered into volun- tary administration. The Balgowlah toll gate has not been charging for about six weeks and this is likely to continue for several more weeks. A spokesperson from Stockland said they expect negotiations with Manly Council about a new parking agreement to be complete in two weeks, with a decision on a new operator and rates. Premier Parking operated about 25 car parks in NSW and up to 50 across the country. Many locals were angry about time limits placed on the Stockland's carpark when it re-opened earlier this year. Full story: Page 7 Watt attacked by jail inmate John Morcombe MANLY'S former kickboxing world champion, Adam Watt, had to be treated in hospital last week after being attacked in jail while on remand for alleged drug offences. Watt was allegedly attacked by another inmate. It is not known what prompted the attack or what injuries Watt re- ceived, but he was returned to Silverwater after medical treatment. Watt was charged last year with conspiracy to import enough pseudoephedrine to make 160kg of crystal methamphetamine (com- monly known as ice). He has spent time since the arrest in Silverwater in between court hearings.
