Infrastructure Partnerships Australia (IPA) said ''long-term integrated transport planning'' in Sydney was the key to delivering the best outcome for taxpayers and commuters. In a submission to the State Government, which is due to hand down its Transport Blueprint -- a 25-year vision -- the IPA suggested a South East Metro from Malabar to the CBD, under Sydney Harbour to North Sydney and along a Military Rd alignment ending at Dee Why. It also suggested investigating a second metro line connecting to the northern tip at Dee Why to Chatswood and through North Sydney via Crows Nest. Brendon Lyon, executive director of the IPA, said as Sydney's population expanded, there needed to be an evolved and staged metro rail network which should be linked into key areas such as the northern beaches. ''What we are seeing is Sydney will be facing a situation where more than 7 1/2 million people will be living here by 2050,'' he said. ''There are around 250,000 or so people on the northern beaches, it's very important that we have high capacity transport.'' ToPage2 JOY DOESN'T MISS OUT. And we don't want you to either.
