''Really, it flies in the face of what has been a fairly clear national agenda, to try and ensure that the left and the right are clearly segmented.'' Mackellar Greens candidate Jonathan King said he had ''shaken hands'' on a preference arrangement with Labor for the seat he was contesting, a deal which he described as being undertaken with the ''least worst'' party. ''I'm very disappointed with Labor's environmental policy . . . because I'm deeply green and I think it's wrong to continue creating new coalmines and con- tinue developing fossil fuel as a main energy source,'' he said. ''But I prefer them to the Coalition.'' Opposition Leader Tony Abbott took Warringah with 54.5 per cent of the primary vote at the 2007 election, meaning he did not require preferences to win the seat. Mr Zochling received 27.4 per cent of the primary vote, with his tally rising to 40.5 per cent on a two-party preferred basis after the distribution of preferences. Bronwyn Bishop took Mackellar with 56.4 per cent of the primary vote in 2007.
